One of the primary ways Colorado PERA tries to maximize retirement security for all our members is through our multifaceted investment program. But investing is an inherently confusing topic for most people who don’t do it every day, which is why we’ve created a series of videos that breaks down several components of PERA’s investment practices and highlights why they remain one of the best ways to ensure your future financial stability as public service employees and retirees.
The “We Hear You” video series arose in response to actual questions we’ve received from members. We aimed to respond to these questions in a way that was engaging and easy to understand. For more in-depth information about the questions answered in this video series, click the links to the accompanying articles on our PERA on the Issues blog.
Investing is one of PERA’s core business practices, yet many people still don’t fully grasp how we make our decisions and manage risk. This video provides a general overview of our operation and highlights how we’re constantly examining these processes and making proactive changes whenever necessary.
The term “benchmark” is common in investments—and commonly misunderstood by non-investors. In this video, you’ll learn how PERA determines the appropriate targets for non-publicly traded assets such as private equity and real estate, and how those investments have performed over the years.
Although this category of investments comes with higher costs, it usually produces higher returns. This video explains how PERA has limited these costs while achieving long-term returns that have been a major contributor to and stabilizer of the PERA fund.
